Ishan
Maheshwari
Photographer, visual researcher, and writer based between the UK and India. His practice spans documentary and fine art photography, archival research, bookmaking, and editorial writing, with a focus on postcolonial and decolonial histories across South Asia and the United Kingdom.
He is a graduating student of BA Photography at the University of the West of England, Bristol (2023–2026). His work examines how power settles into land, institutions, and objects — how colonial histories are preserved, sanitised, or made invisible through archival systems, heritage designation, curatorial decisions, and civic narrative.
He writes in English and Hindi, and sees writing as continuous with photographic practice rather than supplementary to it. He is returning to India after graduation to build a practice rooted in the South Asian postcolonial photography and visual culture ecosystem.
